The woman in the locket

Likely my most experimental piece so far. It has been through the following: original shot, Polaroid emulsion lift onto canvas, cut out from canvas, applied to watercolor paper, added sheer glitter acrylic paint touches.

This process gave it a tactile quality that I am liking. Usually my lifts feel so ephemeral and fragile… almost like they are images drifting away into a dream. But with this, I wanted it to feel real. I wanted the viewer to have the sense that this woman (me) is really in someone’s locket somewhere. The distortions I gave the original lift add a touch of the surreal as well because I can’t have anybody thinking I’m a realist!
